COST OF LIVING

Harry is fighting to make life more affordable for our families. He supports banning hidden “junk fees” on goods and services and has worked to lower healthcare costs including banning price-gouging on essential medicines. Harry is also working to expand affordable and accessible childcare.

EDUCATION

Harry believes all our kids deserve a world-class education, from early childhood to college or career training. He is pushing for more funding for local public schools to reduce our reliance on property taxes and to strengthen investment in vocational education. HARRY HAS ALSO BEEN A FIERce ADVOCATE FOr SPECIAL EDUCATION AND THOSE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES.

VETERANS

HARRY IS ADAMANT IN ENSURING THAT WE TAKE CARE OF OUR VETERANS. AS A BOARD MEMBER OF VETERANS OUTREACH OF ILLINOIS, HE IS INSTRUMENTAL IN WORKING TO GET A TINY-HOME COMMUNITY BUILT FOR HOMELESS AND TRANSITIONING VETERANS. AS STATE REPRESENTATIVE, HARRY PASSED A BILL THAT IMPROVED CHILDCARE ON MILITARY BASES, INCREASED STATE ASSISTANCE FOR HOMELESS VETERANS, AND OFFERED HELP TO VETERANS SEEKING PROFESSIONAL LICENSES.

HEALTHCARE

HARRY is fighting to improve healthcare and lower costs for our families. He worked to stop health insurance companies from artificially raising their rates to boost profits and to ban junk health insurance plans that don’t offer true medical coverage. HARRY worked to cap the cost of insulin at $35 a month and to stop pharmaceutical companies from price-gouging on essential medicines.

REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS

Harry is protecting women’s reproductive rights and healthcare access. He and his wife would not have been able to have their family without IVF and he will always stand up for our right to make our own private medical decisions without political interference. That’s why Planned Parenthood supports Harry Benton.

LABOR

Harry’s family’s organized labor roots go back three generations, and he will fight to ensure that labor is taken care of every step of the way. Benton knows Illinois’ economy has a serious shortage of workers for high-paying jobs in the skilled trades, healthcare, and other fields. He passed new funding to expand vocational education and is working to create new pathways to apprenticeships and skills training.

STANDING UP FOR OUR SENIORS

Benton is standing up for our senior citizens. Benton strongly opposes a new tax on retirement savings and is fighting for lower healthcare costs and real property tax relief. Benton will always fight to fully funding Meals on Wheels, home healthcare, and other critical services our seniors rely on.

COMMUNITY SAFETY

Harry supports the men and women in law enforcement who work tirelessly to protect our communities. Harry believes we need to fully fund our state and local law enforcement agencies so that they can effectively do their jobs and keep repeat offenders with a history of violence off the street. Benton is a committed leader in the struggle to end violence against women. Benton is investing in domestic violence shelters, strengthening gun safety laws to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, and working to prevent a backlog of untested rape kits and hold predators accountable.
